Hair Bravery!

Note: I spend this entire post boring you with a history of what I've done to my hair in the past. I'm sorry! :) I promise to write something extra interesting soon!

I almost never  do anything new or vaguely interesting to my hair. My hair is naturally blond, and has always had amazing highlights. My hair is slowly darkening, which is reasonable seeing that my Mom's hair is dark brown and my Dad's is light brown. I have pretty much always had long-ish hair, anywhere from around my shoulders to my lower back. When I was seven, I had my first major haircut. I went from having hair down to my lower back, to having a very short bob! Everyone said that it was cute, but I genuinely disliked it. Strongly. 

The summer before 6th grade, I cut my hair short again. I won't go into details, since I remember posting about it. I loved that haircut, it wasn't quite as short.

The point of all that boringness was that I've never been very daring about my hair, I love the natural color, and am generally not very dramatic with cuts and styles.

Anyway, recently I decided to do something a little different! I decided to dye my hair! The other day, Mom and I popped into Sally's Beauty Supply and bought some teal hair dye...
I just got done rinsing the excess dye from my hair! We didn't do my whole head, only a large streak at the front. It turned out a lovely shade of vibrant aqua/teal. Mom only dyed the top layer, and didn't dye the tiny front young hairs, simply for the sake of me not having a blue face for the next week or two!  :)

MY HAIR IS BLUE!!! It looks prettier now that it's dry, I took those photos when it was damp and stringy. It's much prettier in real life. It has all different tones and shades in it, ranging from TARDIS blue,to nearly green, and every shade of blue and blue-green in between! It's also sort of metallic and shimmery. The dye smelled amazing! It made my hair smell very good and feel very soft.

Have you ever dyed your hair? Do you guys have any tips for dyeing hair? My hair is light enough that we won't have to lighten it, and the dye we used was semi-permanent. The color should last for about 6 weeks.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while guys! We've been super busy with loads of little things! Also, my room is nearly done!

 I have a few things to put back, and I'd like to hang a few items on the walls, but other than that it's done!
We actually got the bed for $30 online. When we went to pick it up, we realized that it was not actually white, (it had been listed as a white iron twin daybed) but a sort of beige-ish flesh toned. Mom painted it white, and now it is much prettier.

Also, if you haven't been to the Hutch Public Library lately, their teen summer reading program is Doctor Who themed! I read 5 novels last week, so I got to pick a prize:

I got Jammie Dodgers! The book is entitled: "The Official Quotable Doctor Who - Wise Words From Across Space And Time"! (I got it at Bluebird Books here in hutch!)

Today, Mom and I stopped in at Sally's Beauty Supply and bought turquoise semi-permanent hair dye! We're going to dye a streak of my hair!

On another note, I have recently discovered the Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo. They are my new favorite books! Part romance, part fantasy, part sci-fy!

I've read books 1 and 2. Book 3 came out last week, so it'll be about another week before I can order it in paperback. I'll post a review once I've finished book 3! The author has written other novels that are set in the same world and with the same characters, like companion novels. I haven't read any of the companion novels, but I hope to!

Wild Kingdom Part Two

A couple of weeks ago, Mom was sitting in the driveway enjoying the sun. She had opened the garage door about 45 minutes prior. She heard a "plop!" and turned around to investigate, upon turning around, she found that a rather large snake had fallen either from in the garage door or in the rafters. I determined that it was probably a Bull snake.
After that Mom refused to enter the garage first, she also had to inspect the rafters first! :)
Last week, Mom was out in the garage getting food for Muddy when she heard another "plop!" and turned around to find a possum! It stared at her and skittered under the car. She then refused to enter the garage without inspecting for rodents, and making noise!
A couple of nights ago, I was in the house, when all of a sudden Mom started shouting my name! I hurried outside and found her in the garage staring up into the rafters. Sure enough, the possum was staring back at us from his perch! I determined that it was a juvenile (teenager), and assured Mom that possums are not aggressive. We called Dad, who came home and rigged up a system for catching the possum. We put a large pool raft under the spot where the possum was perched. Once we were all armed with brooms, Dad knocked the possum off of the rafter, as soon as the possum was on the ground, we swept it outside. Where it promptly played dead. I found this all quite fascinating, and thoroughly enjoyed watching the possum flop down with his tongue lolling, lay for a while, peek around to see if we were still there, and upon seeing me, flop back down!

P.S. My strawberries are doing amazing, though recently the bugs and the birds have gotten to them and I'm throwing out almost as many as I'm picking! My plants are three years old, and I do just about nothing to them, I water if necessary, but they are really low-maintenance.

I end up eating most of them before I even get inside!

Bedroom Redo

I'm fairly sure that I've mentioned my bedroom decor before, but I thought that today might be a good day to elaborate on it, seeing as we're redoing it this week.

Before I was born, my parents thought that I was going to be a boy (because Goertzens just have boys, almost ALL of my cousins are boys!) so they made my room vehicle themed. The wallpaper had houses and a road with trucks and cars, I adored it, and loved to count the houses as I fell asleep at night

Then, when I was approx. 7, I decided that I wanted to redo it. We painted the walls bright/pepto pink, and decorated it with pictures of the Eiffel Tower.

This is my room as of this past March, nothing has changed, except I took down the wreath hanging in the corner. You can click on the picture to make it bigger.

Now, I've decided that I'm done with the pink, It's not ugly or terrible, it's simply a large amount of very bright pink. We're painting the walls pale blue. We may also be trading in my bunk bed which dominates most of the room, for a white iron frame daybed that my grandparents have.

I'm excited about painting, and I have considered moving the furniture around a bit. (my room  is teeny, so using the space is important.) But the part I'm most unsure of, is the bed switch. I love using the top bunk as a reading nook, and I can have a friend sleep up there if they stay the night. I also love how cozy the bottom bunk (where I normally sleep) feels, it makes me feel sheltered. And I can hang stuff from the bunks, my bed is covered in stuff taped to it, notes from Mom, pictures, and other random stuff.
Basically, I'm weighing the visual space the bunk bed takes up and the fact that I'll be able to sit and read on my bed VS. the cozy bottom bunk and the familiarity with my current bed. I think I'll try the new bed for a while, and we can always move my bunk bed back in if necessary.

P.S. I find that unlike some girls my age, I enjoy having a clean room and I am constantly tidying my room. I don't like to be in my room if there is stuff all over the floor!

Steampunk Day, Updates, and photos

This past Saturday was  Wild West Steampunk Day in Wichita's Old Cow Town! Mom and I went, and had an amazing time! We love steampunk, and have been wanting to attend this event for a while. I had been planning my outfit/costume for a while, but hadn't really done anything to really put it together until the morning of the event! I found a lot of inspiration from the costumes around me, and my costume next year will definitely be much more planned out! :)
Now, on to the pictures!

This was taken in one of the old houses, later in the afternoon. I had given up on going without my glasses!

Someone had brought their pet kangaroo, it was incredibly soft! He was 4 years old and very gentle and friendly! I think that he was softer than a rabbit!

 

The phrenologist was one of my favorite parts! He was fascinating, and had a great sense of humor!

Phrenology is an old study of tiny organs that were supposedly in the brain, the size of which developed different parts of your personality.

A steampunk Darth Vader!

I thoroughly enjoyed the stables, and was hoping for a stagecoach ride, but the lines were too long.

Well, I think that's about it! I definitely recommend going, and if you don't know much about steampunk, they have a demonstration called, "Steampunk 101" to help!

Now I just have to get my Rose Tyler costume ready for Smallville Comic Con!

Wild Kingdom

You guys all know just how much I adore all animals, so yesterday was an interesting day for me! I had a few unusual encounters with some animals and I thought that I might share them with you.

Interaction #1: On the way home from Hutchinson, Mom and I  hit a turkey! It was on the other side of the road and it kept taking a few steps foreword, then a few steps back. Suddenly it took off and started flying towards us, it smacked the windshield right in front of me! We're all okay and the car is too, but I don't know about the turkey, it'll probably be eaten by a coyote.

Interaction #2: On our bike ride last night, Mom and I went to see some horses that she had noticed while she was running. They were absolutely stunning! They are pastured East of the Old Mill and the industrial park here in Buhler. It was dusky and hard to get a really good look at them, but they were both pinto coloration with one looking to be an black and white Overo and the other a black and white Tobiano. Mom thinks she knows who they belong to, but she's not quite sure. The horses both loped over when they saw us coming, but wouldn't get up close, so we just stayed and watched them jog about.


Interaction #3: Also on our bike ride last night, Mom and I spotted a cat sitting in the middle of the road. We rode our bikes up and saw that it had something, upon closer inspection we realized that the cat had a bird! We rode our bikes up on either side of the cat, and I chased the cat away while Mom caught the little bird. The bird appeared to be a young starling, it seemed to have adult feathers, but wasn't flying. We don't know if it was injured, too young to fly, or pretending to be hurt to lure the cat away from the nest. Mom put the bird in a nook in a nearby tree, we hope that it will be okay!


Have you had an interesting animal experience? It doesn't have to be a wild animal, my dog does some odd things sometimes. :)

Well, It's finally warm again (It's been around 60 degrees Fahrenheit lately, and is now about 80) so I'm going to go walk my dog! Bye!

Sale Day

Today was Buhler's City-Wide Garage Sale. My mom has decided that she never wants to run a garage sale ever again, though she says that every year! This year we didn't have very much stuff, so we sold it at my Nana's house and helped her run her sale. I am utterly exhausted, I made cookies last night to sell this morning, so I was up until approximately 11:30 last night! I got up really early, set up my table at Nana's house, and started selling cookies. I sold around 150 cookies in under an hour! I made $45.25 from cookies alone! I made the cookies entirely from scratch, boxed them, and sold my cookies for 25 cents apiece!
After my cookie stand sold out, I spent the rest of the day monitoring the kids, and I found out just how much trouble they can get into while you run to get a drink!

Before I forget, I want to share with you a few of my recent creations, I made them here.

I know that it might be a little odd that I like making these, but I enjoy it, and I use them to make characters from books I've read.
